Bad Weather / Mal tiempo

Last Thursday was our first day of rain on the project. :( Robert had covered the top of the SIP walls over the weekend so we sailed through (no pun intended) without problems.
El jueves de la semana pasada tuvimos la primer lluvia en el proyecto. :( Roberto había tapado la parte de arriba de los paneles con plástico, asi que no tuvimos ningún problema.

Interior Framing / Paredes internas

Attaching the plates to the concrete floor. To stay away from the radiant tubing, Chepe is carefully drilling only 1.5" (tubing is at about 3.5" deep in the slab).
Instalando la base de las paredes en el cemento. Para no tener problemas con la tubería radiante, Chepe taladra agujeros de unos 3.75 cm (la tubería está a unos 9 cm de profundidad en el cemento) en los que luego se insertan unos clavos especiales.

End of the Week of SIPs/ Final de la semana de paneles

And this is what got done by the end of the week. All wall panels are up, only a few headers, odds and ends remain to be finished.
Y hasta aca llegó el progreso en la primer semana del proyecto. Todos los paneles de pared están instalados, solo quedan algunas vigas y otras minucias para terminar esta fase.

SIPs Second Day / Segundo día de paneles

By mid-morning, there was not that much more to go.
Para media mañana, ya no quedaba mucho más por hacer.

Bud went ahead and transcribed panel lengths, splines, etc. on the plate. This not only helped the crew in prepping what was coming up, but also aided by making sure the right components were placed. Brilliant!
Bud marcando en la base el largo de los paneles, los conectores, etc. Esto no solo ayudó a los demás a preparar lo siguiente, sino que también confirmaba que el componente correcto fuera usado. Genio!

By the end of the day, only two smaller wall panels and a few headers need to be set. This view is from the garage.

First Walls / Primeras paredes

These are the wonders of having the right tool—no need to take the panels all around the slab.
Que bárbaro que no tuvimos que llevar los paneles alrededor de la casa.

This is how the proprietary caulking, Do All Ply, gets applied on the three sides of contact. This stuff acts as a gasket and it remains pliable for more than 50 years.
Aplicación del sellador en los tres lados del encastre. Este sellador actua como una junta y se mantiene flexible por más de 50 años.

The panel fits like a glove on the sill plates.
By the way, everybody involved so far has complimented the concrete work as being accurate and square throughout. This is paramount when working with SIPs. Thank you Rick and crew, from Narum Concrete.

This is Jerry, from Big Sky Insulation. A super guy that has been instrumental in our decision to go with SIPs. He traveled from Belgrade, Mont. to train the crew and oversee the beginning of installation. 
Este señor es Jerry, de Big Sky Insulation. Un tipo genial que fue instrumental en la decisión de usar paneles y ahora viajó desde Montana para entrenar a los constructores y ayudar en el inicio del proyecto.

In case you forget to drill the spline for the wire chase to continue from panel to panel, there's always the right tool to get it done!
Suerte que hay herramientas especiales para cuando uno se olvida de hacer el agujero en la madera conectora para que el conducto para cables continue de panel a panel.

At the end of the day, Mateo got to park the all terrain forklift—thanks Bud!

SIPs Are Here! / ¡Llegaron las paredes!

The truck arrives from Montana at 10:18 am.

The brand of the SIPs is R-Control sold to us by Big Sky Insulation, Inc. Today we learned this plant in Montana is R-Control's most technologically advanced in the country.
Hoy nos enteramos que la planta en Montana donde hicieron nuestros paneles es la más tecnologicamente avanzada de todo el país.

I guess unloading didn't interrupt traffic!
Parece que los autos siguieron pasando mientras bajaban los paneles.

Only three little piles for the outside walls. Roof panels will arrive later on.
Solo tres pilitas para hacer todo el perímetro de la casa. Los paneles del techo van a llegar cuando estemos listos.

SIP Sill Plates

Note the top plate will be caulked, nailed and bolted down to the bottom plate to receive the SIPs.
